Martin Cullen the minister for Sports and Tourism in Ireland has backed plans to stage the A1 Grand Prix series in Dublin. During a photo opportunity this morning with A1 driver Adam Carroll the minister called on a viability test to be carried out to see if staging the event was possible.
Mr. Cullen was photographed with the A1 trophy and Adam Carroll at his department. It is hoped that a stage of the race could happen in Dublin next September or October. The city would benefit from holding the race due to the worldwide interest it would bring. Cullen spoke of the idea “fitting with their vision” of attracting big sporting events to Ireland.
He also spoke of the economic benefits such an event could bring to the country. Ireland is still struggling to turn around the current recession with more job cuts being announced each week.
